MAGIC MAROON 30/4/08
Maroon
dam is located 60km west of Boonah. The dam itself is small in size
compared to those around it, but those who fish the dam on a regular
basis know that, what it lacks in size it more than makes up in fish
numbers. With cricket score catch’s a common feet on the dam
shores. Most if not all impoundment bass techniques work on the lake at
any one time, with jackals, spinnerbaits, plastics and surface lures
being the favourites amongst the regulars. As noted, Maroon is an
excellent surface bite dam with dawn and dusk being the preferred
times, although they will bite well into the day given the right
conditions. As along with many of the dams in SE QLD, Maroon has
received a rise in water level, which has changed the pattern of the
dam’s fishing to some extent. In recent times fish have been
holding in water only a couple of hundred millimetres. These fish have
been responding to surface lures, lightly weighed and texas rigged soft
plastics and shollow diving minnows. Fish are still schooling up and
holding on the edges, these fish respond to slow rolling jackals,
spinnerbaits and plastics.
